Nonprofit StorytellingAugust - 2020

Nonprofit storytelling forms an emotional bond between the audience and the organization. Drawing the audience into your nonprofit’s mission will lead to greater fundraising opportunities.

AE Marketing Group’s approach to nonprofit marketing utilized documentary storytelling as a way to showcase youth trauma and drive fundraising and awareness.

UCAN advocates for and provides opportunities that change the lives of youths and families in Chicago through compassionate healing, education, and empowerment.

UCAN is one of Chicago’s oldest nonprofits, and although their campus has moved and expanded since their opening 150-years ago, their dedication to serving youths and families has not.

In 2019, AE Marketing Group debuted creative work that told the stories of UCAN’s youths at the nonprofit’s largest fundraising event of the year. The creative led to record fundraising.

The creative included seven documentary videos along with photography, featuring inspiring young men and women from Chicago who received college scholarships. Over 350 UCAN board members, staff, supporters, local youth and civic leaders gathered at the Four Seasons Chicago for the celebration.

Storytelling is the best way for nonprofits to form emotional connections with donors, who may not always fully understand the work they do or the people and communities they serve.
